Pacific Rim - Cast and Crew

Main Cast

It was said long before it hit theatres across the world that Pacific Rim was going to be a film you either got or you didn’t…it was pretty much as simple as that. And so it proved, as those with a passion for allowing their inner nine-year-olds (along with their own kids) to revel in pure monster madness for the odd hour or two were rewarded with a sci-fi romp of epic proportions.

But even if the movie itself wasn’t your cup of tea, there was and is no denying that the folks at Warner Bros. put together a seriously stellar cast and crew to work on things. It’s an impressive roll call to say the least – here’s a brief rundown of the key players that made Pacific Rim the epic slice of awesomeness it still is today:

Charlie Hunnam as Raleigh Beckett

Born April 10, 1980 in Newcastle UK, Charles Matthew Hunnam shot to fame after being cast in a hit British TV show by the name of Queer as Folk. Just three years later, he found himself in the role of a lifetime when he landed a part in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, which is of course the kind of opportunity most actors can only dream of. He currently spends half of his time in London and the other in New York, recently stating that his acting icons are Daniel Day-Lewis and Sean Penn.

When some films do not pay as well and you have a mortgage to pay and you are on an economy drive eating eggs and beans, and you are offered a million dollar role and you turn it down, as it is not right. I want to be doing this when I am 60 and getting the big paying roles then so I have to pick the parts that are right for the long term rather than take the money now.

Charlie Hunnam

Diego Klattenhoff as Yancy Beckett

Perhaps best known for his work in the hit TV series Homeland, Diego Klattenhoff originally aspired to become a professional baseball player. Nevertheless, he found himself drawn in the theatrical side of life while working as a bartender and the rest was history. He also has a variety of other TV credits to his name, including Stargate SG-1 and Smallville.

Idris Elba as Stacker Pentecost

Born in London and now one of the most in-demand names in the whole of Hollywood, Idris Elba has on multiple occasions been referred to as no less than the coolest man on the planet. It was during his time on The Wire that he became a household name, after which he well and truly burst onto the big screen with parts in American Gangster, Takers, Thor and many others.

By the way, you know I've never watched The Wire (2002). I've seen a full episode at screenings but never at home. I've never watched an entire season. I've not seen any episode of season two, most of season three and none of seasons four and five. I'm supercritical of my own work. As an actor, if you're being told how wonderful you are, what do you need to strive for? I don't know if I'm good just because some critic says I am in the press.

Idris Elba

Charlie Day as Dr. Newton Geiszler

Famed for his iconic high-pitched voice and often being given the role of the less-than well-treated character in any given plot, Charlie Day has been a regular on the scene since It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia back in 2005. He’s most closely associated with Horrible Bosses of course, along with his outstanding portrayal of Dr. Newton Geiszler in Pacific Rim.
